Commissioning Engineers
(UK Vacancy, £37k to £47k + Car Allowance)
Our client requires successful candidates to ensure safe and reliable commissioning and operation of new substation assets on the electricity transmission system, to meet demands of sustainable generation, customer requirements and replacement of an ageing asset base.
To undertake complex projects and to supervise others within the commissioning activity.
To undertake a range of other duties on plant and equipment as required to a defined standard that may include maintenance, site delivery of projects, complex fault investigation and repair, safety implementation and monitoring, supervising internal and monitoring external staff to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness, and safety as appropriate.
To support and provide assistance to a Delivery Engineer in ensuring the effective day-day utilisation of resources and prioritisation of work within the tasks and projects allocated.
Knowledge, Experience & Technical Know How:
Technical - Essential
· Ability to commission all types of equipment to recognised standards and procedures.
· Project delivery experience on a full range of complex, multi-interface projects will be required.
· Environmental knowledge and experience in respect of day-to-day duties, together with proven ability to respond to emergency situations.
· Application of full SAP duties across a large range of equipment.
· Planning or other non field based experience required.
· Sound understanding of operational policies, procedures and processes.
Technical - Advantageous
· A wide range of experience in substations work and/or on HV cable systems, encompassing electrical, mechanical, civil and telecoms engineering disciplines.
· In depth technical knowledge relating to the electrical and safety aspects of substation plant, together with fault finding expertise and plant analysis.
Supervisory/Interpersonal
· Effective planning, man-management, communication and supervisory skills to lead large groups of staff to achieve efficient completion of tasks.
· Demonstrate a self-help approach to common work related problems, using IT systems to resolve them.
· Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the company’s performance management process, including personal development.
Financial
· Effective management and control of on the job expenditure and of allocated budgets.
Full training will be provided on assets, procedures and authorisations, as required.
Qualifications Required:
Essential
· Minimum HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical engineering.
· Qualifications leading to membership of Institute of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) or similar professional body.
· NEBOSH.
· Full driving licence.
Advantageous
· Advanced Commissioning Engineer under UK Transmission Procedure TP141.
· Principal Contractor Representative (PC) / Site Manager under UK Transmission procedure TP144A.
Additional Information Concerning the Role
· Working as an integral member of a mobile workforce in groups that best match the planned programme of work, travelling direct to and from the point of work, the post holder will work within all functions of substations as required, and will also be required to adopt a flexible approach to work and its completion so as to minimise cost.
· Responsible for the day-to-day management of a team, to deliver work as directed by Delivery Engineer and/or Delivery Manager.
· Typically managing multiple tasks, concurrently at various locations, with large numbers of staff of mixed ability, including contractors.
