Geotechnical Engineering and Marine Surveys, our client is a UK based worldwide offshore site investigation and foundation engineering Company.
The position has a combined role of offshore project fieldwork and office based engineering and reporting. During fieldwork a Project Engineer will typically lead a team for the offshore phase of a project, taking the role of Offshore Project Manager. Reporting back to an (Onshore) Project Manager, he/she is responsible for the overall site management of the fieldworks, liaising with senior drillers, vessel master, client representatives and supervising the geotechnical team.
Office based duties include team selection, preparation of pre fieldwork documentation, review of contract specifications and other preparations to ensure the offshore spread is correctly mobilised. Post fieldwork the role involves specification and supervision of onshore laboratory testing and coordination of final reporting.
Projects are conducted worldwide including Europe, Middle East, West Africa and South America so wide ranging travel can be expected.
The ideal candidate will have:
· At least 5 years’ experience in supervising marine based geotechnical investigations including at least 1 year as the most senior geotechnical representative.
· Possess a degree relevant to Geotechnics or Engineering Geology.
· Knowledge of BS5930 “Code of Practice for Site Investigation” and BS1377 “Methods of Test for Soils for Civil Engineering Purposes” would be expected.
· Experience of foundation design and engineering reporting would be an advantage.
Progression from this position would be into further project management if desired for which further development and training would be available.
